Chapter 1: From Léo-Pol to Leo Pol
Leo Pol is a fascinating character as a great artist from the underground Parisian scene. He has earned in few years a solid reputation as a Concrete’s resident, for his soulful lives and as the founder of the imprint iile.
Léo-Pol Poirel’s first contact with music was behind his drums in his early 10 years old reproducing kicks from his favourite repertoire - punk and rock music. Slowly as he becomes a responsible teenager he started to prefer experiencing the tremendous Parisian club life rather than the school’s benches. Mesmerised by the micro house call playing from the basement of the Rex Club or hanging out to the Social. Approximately at this moment he discovered Ableton, a musical production software, and started playing with beats and hats on old gears, having fun. Soon he stopped his studies of law to dedicate himself to his passion and cumulated staples jobs to feed his collection of old machines.
Chapter 2: Debuts, You Got The Funk
2015 can be seen as a major step in his career with the launch of his first anonymous EP with the jazzy You Got The Funk on his sub-label Uniile. The aim was double. First, for the listener to focus on the title itself and not on the producer but also to publish a song which will not be flagged under his name. Giving him more liberty to develop Leo Pol’s sound while releasing different styles.
This EP with his vibe absolutely old-school from Chicago’s 90s and a bit deep, a bit acid caught the attention of Concrete’s artistic director who was looking for a House DJ. Leo was definitively a match with a plus, he plays live. After one successful night behind the decks of the barge and on the following weeks a booking for Weather Festival Leo is joining the residents of the France’s finest club. Today You Got The Funk is priced over 100€ on Discogs.
Chapter 3: Tribute to the roots of House Music
Beside of his success Leo is staying loyal to his vision for electronic music. He criticises a scene which is becoming too formatted because of the gear producers used which is too numerical and less and less analogical. Artistic projects which do not evolved much to conform to a trend. Leo is always striving to connect us through live music using his old machines which produce a warmer sound such as the old American Macki with their dirty blow or Roland’s gears. A way to express his feelings reinventing his repertoire of un/released tracks through his mood. It brings you to an unique moment.
